U 73343 is an inactive analog of the putative phospholipase C antagonist U 73122. Phospholipase C is a class of membrane-associated enzymes, which plays an important role in signal transduction pathways by cleaving phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate into diacylglycerol and inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate, which serve as second messengers. Therefore, U 73343 can be used as a negative control of U 73122 for elucidating the role of phospholipase C in a variety of biological events such as gastric acid secretion and hormone-stimulated calcium signals.

Applications |
At the concentration range of 6 ~ 8 μM, U 73343 elicited no effects on endothelin-1 and parathyroid hormone stimulated intracellular calcium transients, whereas U 73122 exhibited complete inhibition on responses to 100 nM endothelin-1 or parathyroid hormone. Also, U 73343 did not affect endothelin-1-induced inositol trisphosphate production. |
