Paclobutrazol is a novel plant growth regulator and multi-stress ameliorant [1].
Paclobutrazol, one of the members of triazole family, regulates plant growth by changing the levels of important plant hormones including the gibberellins (GAs), abscisic acid (ABA) and cytokinins (CK). Paclobutrazol has been used to provide plant protection against numerous abiotic stresses such as chilling, water deficit stress, flooding and salinity [1].
In Camelina plants, paclobutrazol treatments (25, 50, 75, 100, 125 mg/l) induced obvious changes in photosynthetic leaf gas exchange. At all concentrations, paclobutrazol also significantly increased chlorophyll contents compared with the controls. In addition, paclobutrazol significantly decreased plant height, in a dose-dependent manner, with the maximum reduction of 47.5% in plant height at the dose of 125 mg/l. However, paclobutrazol at the maximal dose did not significantly change stem dry biomass content, different from paclobutrazol at lower doses which increased stem dry biomass by ~ 8.5%, 23.8%, 39.8% and 57.5%, respectively [2].
