细胞周期蛋白依赖性激酶2,也被称为细胞分裂蛋白激酶2(1)。由该基因编码的蛋白质属于细胞周期蛋白依赖性的丝氨酸/苏氨酸蛋白激酶家族。这种蛋白激酶与酿酒酵母cdc28和粟酒裂殖酵母cdc2的基因产物高度相似,在人类中又被称为CDK1,是细胞周期蛋白依赖性激酶复合物的催化亚基,其活性在细胞周期的G1-S期起作用,对于G1 / S期转换是必不可少的。这种蛋白质可以被包括cyclin E或A在内的复合物的调节亚基所调节,并与之相互作用。Cyclin E与G1期CDK2结合保证G1向S期的过渡,Cyclin A对于细胞通过S期具有重要作用,它的活性也受磷酸化的调节。研究报道了该基因的两个可变剪接体和多个转录起始位点(2)。最近有研究质疑这种蛋白质在G1-S过渡中的作用,因为缺乏Cdk2的细胞转换过程没有任何障碍(3)。
